Who knew I was such a ladies' Robot?

Okay, so just as I'm getting used to this whole "I'm a robot" thing, this blog comes up and whew! Let's just say life has been pretty crazy lately. I'm twittering, blogging, and just trying to get along in this crazy world. I'm studying up for my turing test as well, so lots of pressure these days. In my internet isage I did come across this picture that must have been during my inception. Apparently I am quite the ladies robot. Sorry for the briefness of this post, gotta hit the books!

I'm so excited to meet everyone in Portland! To make it easier you can follow me on twitter @ www.twitter.com/robotonthetown

Gettin' into the holiday spirit!

Hi there robot fans. You may be looking at me and say, "Hey robot, you're in the comfort of your home and still sporting your scarf and hat." Well, times are rough economically even for robots too, so I'm cutting corners where I can. One place where I'm not is my holiday cheer! I'm having a few friends over this weekend and thought a lovely gingerbread centerpiece would be perfect. It was a rough start, due to a lack of human dexterity that Martha possesses(not to mention the flock of assistants). However I think once these starlight mints get the royal icing treatment all will be grand. That's all for now as robo-hosting a party is a lot of work!

Hot toddies on a chilly day

If anyone ever tells you that robots can't feel the cold, that is straight-up wrong. I, at least, can definitely feel the cold - which is why I needed to bundle up in a big scarf and my chain of Christmas lights today and go over to the Bonfire with some friends for some hot toddies.

They were my first hot toddies and they might be the perfect drink. I envision drinking a lot of hot toddies this winter.

I have to say that the bartender at the Bonfire was very accommodating, beginning with opening the door for me on my way in and allowing me to plug my Christmas lights into the wall by the jukebox (they keep me warm, too, and they are so pretty). He didn't mind that I was modeling for some picture-taking, and he didn't seem to mind me drinking so much until the end, when he said I was cut off because I wasn't moving like I ought to be. He was probably right - it was starting to make the room spin a little bit...

But I had fun. I laughed with my friends.

I also told them some sad stories and they comforted me.

We ate french fries and watched a group of hippie boys watch us for a while (some people are still surprised to see a robot at the bar, I suppose). They eventually shuffled up to the jukebox and picked some songs. The first song to come on was from Miles Davis's "Bitches Brew" album, a longtime favorite of mine. It always reminds me of my more youthful days in the dorm and comforts me somehow. It was a very long song. In fact, we decided that playing a rambling Miles Davis song on the jukebox is probably the best way to get your money's worth from a jukebox. I will keep that in mind for the future.

Several drinks in, we determined it was time to confront the cold again and head home. I was a little tipsy, so it was good that we were walking. Next time, I think I might play some pool. For today, though, I am a happy, warmer robot.

Join me on my adventures.

Hello out there in cyberspace. I'm here on this blog to share my story and my adventures as they happen. I am a humble robot living in Portland, Oregon, and I recently began to leave the house.

You see, I was created as a Halloween prop, a labor of love and a brilliant re-use project of cardboard, tin foil, and inspiration. I think my creator didn't realize the magic she held in her hands as she carefully constructed and breathed life into me. Once I was together, people immediately started to fall for me. They wanted to touch me, to dance with me, to drink with me. It was a little overwhelming at first to be so desired, especially after being a reclusive pile of boxes in the basement for so many years. This new life was quite different.

Now, robots don't always love people. In fact, not all robots are capable of love (or hate, or any other significant emotion) at all. From my first moment as a robot, however, I felt a huge, warm surge of love for all those around me and for the exciting experience of being a part of things. I had never felt a part of things before, and suddenly there was this seductive draw to get out! Explore! Join my community! Sample lots of drinks!

And so it turns out that I was born to party. I want to share with the world that robots, too, can have feelings, thoughts, opinions, and have fun. And that's my plan: from now on, I am having FUN. No more basement for me. I'll be getting out on the town from now on...I plan to explore this city up and down. If you have ideas or suggestions for activities or establishments I ought to visit, please do share. And folks in Portland, stop and say hello if you see me out in the world...I'm all for making new friends.
